My name is Cindy Dobos. I am a Doula, Childbirth Educator and Student Midwife(Please see service and fee's page for more information about homebirth services) Most importantly I am a mother to 5 beautiful children. 4 born in the hospital and the 5th born at home. I believe that birth is a natural, normal and healthy event in a woman and her partner's life. Birth is sacred, it is afterall the day a woman becomes a mother, a man becomes a father and right in that very moment when a child is born, they become a family! Such a wonderful and beautiful moment in time that I am honored to be a part of. I attended my first doula training in 2002. Since then I have assisted 100 women bring their babies into the world. Although I have attended many workshops, seminars and read many books over the years, nothing has "taught" me more about birth than being there, in the moment "with woman". I have assisted at hospital and home births. It is a beautiful thing to watch as a woman finds her strength and her power. I have assisted many families of various backgrounds, races and religions and am always inspired, as birth is the one thing, we as women have in common regardless of our backgrounds, it is the one thing that unites us all. Birth is Universal.
I believe Every woman has the right to choose where, and with whom she gives birth. Whether that be at home, hospital or birthing center or under a tree. When a woman is free to make the choice to give birth uinder her own strength and in her own way where SHE feels comfortable and most confident, then that is where she should be. I have attended beautiful births in the hospital and at home. When the right "formula" is in place a beautiful birth can happen wherever the woman chooses.
Why I Want to be a Midwife
The beauty of birth amazes me! The strength of women inspires me! The first cry of a new baby takes my breath away. I began attending births as a doula in 2002. wow I learned very quickly how hard women had to work to get a natural birth in the hospital. I watched helplessly as a doula when women were confined to a bed or watched in disbelief as hospital staff were rude to my clients just because they wanted a natural birth. But I stayed the course as a doula and helped many, many, many clients have beautiful births at the hospital. Little by little I gained more and more knowledge and education about the clinical aspects of giving birth, attended workshops/seminars etc. Thanks to many supportive and caring midwives in our community that shared their knowledge with me. When I became pregnant in 2008, homebirth was the only option for myself. I did have my son at home and wow! It was AMAZING! My own homebirth experience solidified my beliefs about birth. The power, the Beauty, the Respect, the Honor! And with that I moved forward with my goal of becoming a midwife. In 2009 I "caught" my first baby and loved every moment of it. With my hands on that baby I knew, This is what I have been called to do, this is my higher calling in life. In addition to apprenticing with a couple local midwives I am also currently enrolled in the Midwife to Be Program which is approved by the South Carolina Board of Medicine. This is an excellent academic program that compliments my midwifery training and also provides me the the valuable academic knowledge needed to practice as a midwife.
I am currently practicing as a Primary Midwife Under Supervision; which means I am now taking my own clients and tending to their prenatal care, labor and birth, and postpartum care under the direct supervision of a local and very sweet Certified Professional Midwife (CPM), Crystal Musselman Fink, I loved her so much I used her as my midwife for the homebirth of my son..I am excited and honored to be working under the guidance of such a wonderful midwife and trusted friend. I am also excited to be bringing my passion for birthing women and their families to Breath of Life Midwifery
